Fans come out for "Sex and the City" movie
At one minute after midnight on Friday morning, the girls of "Sex and the City" arrived on movie screens across Long Island, and hundreds of
their fans prepared for hours ahead of time to greet them.
The key: accessorizing, of course.
At the UA Westbury Stadium 12, where the film played simultaneously on four screens, that meant not only Prada shoes and Chanel handbags but good friends, plenty of late-night stamina and even a little alcohol.
Tiana Taliep, of Glen Cove, showed up with two girlfriends after
spending a couple of hours in a nearby bar. She'd been named the
designated driver but, much like her favorite "City" character,
Samantha ( Kim Cattrall), she couldn't resist knocking back a few
shots. A friend took over driving duties and Taliep, 21, smuggled a
six-pack of beer into the theater in her purse.
"We can't lose our buzz," she said, adding that her on-screen heroes
would probably approve. "You know they'll be drinking in the movie."
Jaime Livingston and Jade Cohen showed up an hour early with tickets
purchased online. Having spent many an evening watching the show while
in college together in Florida, they were eager to see Carrie Bradshaw
( Sarah Jessica Parker) return with some new outfits. (Both women said
they took a "Sex and the City" quiz on Facebook and discovered they
were most like Carrie.)
But Livingston, 23, of Jericho, said there was more to the show than
just fashion. "It reminds you of your group of friends," she said.
"Everybody can relate to one of the characters. It's like girl talk,
but on television."
The one accoutrement in short supply Thursday night: men. But fairly
far ahead in line stood Alan Sable, 44, with his wife, Stacy, 41, of
Woodbury. And guess who dragged whom to the theater?
"I wanted to go," said Alan, who messaged his wife via Blackberry
early in the day to buy tickets and arrange for a sitter for their
children. His favorite character: Mr. Big (Chris Noth), who ran Carrie
in circles throughout the show. "He's got the edge."
