My Mets tickets cost more than diamonds
The telephone call I had anxiously awaited finally came. I had a message on my answering machine from John, a New York Mets relocation ticket representative. He followed up with an e-mail with a link to views from the seats in the new ballpark, pricing plans and an explanation of the amenities at the different price levels.
A bond with creative writing and American values
The first time I was ever paid for my writing was in 1978, when I entered the Garden City Jaycees' annual essay contest.
Building a little bridge, two by two
I have often wondered what it was like to witness the construction of the great bridges - the Brooklyn Bridge, the Verrazano, the George Washington, the bridge over the River Kwai. Little did I know, that in my lifetime, I'd be able to witness one of the greatest bridge-building projects on Long Island: the widening of the overpass at Exit 63 on the Long Island Expressway.
Fishing for fun in your own hometown
Here on Long Island's South Shore we are lucky enough to have our own professional All-Star team - with no prima donnas, no one's wife sneaking off to France to be with Lenny Kravitz, and a team that works extremely hard, sometimes three times a day, to please fans.
Expressway: Muslim stereotypes hurt us, one and all
In today's mixing world, with interracial couples becoming commonplace and Barack Obama having a shot at the presidency, it might seem silly to say that race is a problem in the United States. Still, people are exposed to racial stereotypes every day.
Expressway: New York baseball, in your dreams
A lot has changed in baseball today. Joe Torre's in Los Angeles, Joe Girardi's back in pinstripes, and both Shea and Yankee stadiums are coming down. For added shock, it's been 50 years since the Dodgers broke every heart in Brooklyn by moving away.
