As he shopped for a rental property in the late 1970s, Danny Lakin found himself touring a three-bedroom ranch in the Silver Point neighborhood of Atlantic Beach. Behind a modest house dressed in white shingles, there were a guesthouse and gunite pool. He could entertain visitors at an outdoor bar, and direct them to an outdoor shower after a swim.

"I saw this little house and I said, 'I’m not renting this house,'" said Lakin, now 78. "And then I went around the back, and I was blown away."

Lakin bought the house, and 47 years later has put it on the market as he prepares to relocate to Florida.

Listed for $998,000, the house measures 1,800 square feet and sits on a 0.18-acre lot. In addition to three bedrooms, there are two full bathrooms, an attic, an unfinished basement and a two-car garage. The driveway offers space for four cars.

The address falls within the Lawrence Union Free School District. Annual taxes total $9,546.

Blocks from the beach, the property is designed to be "the ultimate private oasis," said Kelly Forman, who has co-listed the property with Marilyn Vincennie-Winer for Compass Greater NY LLC.

The outdoor bar area has a refrigerator and gas hook-up for cooking. An aqua-hued waterslide provides transport from patio to pool.

"I was so popular from June to September, you couldn’t believe it," said Lakin, who hosted friends and family during the summer months.

In warm weather, the main house is cooled by wall unit air conditioning. Natural gas and baseboard heating warm the space in cooler weather.

For Lakin, who grew up in Queens, the home has been the setting of several decades’ worth of life’s milestones. He took in his first dog, Sunshine the Airedale Terrier. He hosted his parents; and he watched as his own son ascended the steps of the pool slide as if it were of monumental height.

"All those things all come together at this house," he said.
