Hicks Nurseries in Westbury is offering plenty of frights and fun this season with its fall festival — including visits from Otto the Ghost and a pumpkin weigh-off competition — and the addition of the new Halloween shop, Spellbound, selling fall wares and festive decor.

"We said we want to elevate the experience of Halloween," says Tricia Rudd, decorative buyer for Hicks. "We usually just have outdoor decor and we said, ‘Let’s make it an experience.' "

A "Halloween Spellbound Shop" sign welcomes visitors to the pop-up shop located in the holiday gallery. Find both indoor and outdoor Halloween-themed goodies, including artisan witches, ornaments, 1950s black cats and candles in seasonal scents such as pumpkin spice, apple and cinnamon.

The Halloween shop was designed with the whole family in mind. "We wanted to make it spooky, but not too spooky," Rudd says. "We wanted the kids to like it, too."

There are yellow, orange and white candy corn-colored plush items and candles, along with snow globes with bats and skulls. Shoppers will also find bright LED infinity lights to illuminate windows in the shape of a haunted house, cat or jack-o'-lantern, and ones spelling out "Trick or Treat" and "Boo!" There are spiderwebs, kooky witches, skeletal hands that hold candles and witch tea towels with fun sayings, like "Broom Parking Here."

Long Islanders looking to go over-the-top with decorating can purchase a 12-foot skeleton with opposable hands ($134) that really stands out.

There are also plenty of options for those who want to display classic Halloween characters that can be used year after year. “The witches we have, are from a company called One Hundred 80," Rudd says. "They’re very artisan-like, a little cartoony looking, that are not easy to find anywhere else." Among the most popular items are ceramic pumpkins that cost $9.99, ghost and witch dolls and plush bats, mummies, monsters and Otto the Ghost figures.

"Right after Halloween it will come down and then it will turn into Christmas," Rudd says.

Prices start at $4.99 for plush items and go up to $149 for an artisan witch. Spellbound closes shop Nov. 1.
