The Shop in Malverne opens, featuring a DIY charm bar
When she created The Shop, a clothing and accessory boutique which opened in Malverne in October, owner Diana Bucci wanted "a place that people will feel like they’re at home while shopping."
The Shop's standout is a charm bar for DIY bracelets and necklaces and a press bar where people can choose patches for denim jackets, sweatshirts and makeup bags.
Shoppers will also find seasonal items including holiday ornaments, a wall dedicated to candy by the pound, kids' educational toys, fragrance and beauty products, items for brides, baby gifts, greeting cards, crafting kits for kids, stationery, candles, gold-plated jewelry, children’s shirts and onesies.
There’s a big assortment of barware, from cocktail shakers to pitchers, coasters, wine charms, decanters and glassware, as well as items for charcuterie boards, including cutting boards, knives, olive boats, cocktail napkins, jams, and honeys, for which Bucci can make custom baskets.
Among the more popular items are dish towels, pillows and ornaments reading, "The Real Housewives of Malverne" or other sayings for the neighboring towns of Lynbrook, Franklin Square, Oceanside and Rockville Centre.
"It’s just all things that I love in one place," says Bucci.
The charm bar has been a big hit with moms and daughters, she notes. "Basically, you get a necklace or bracelet and you pick as many charms that you would like that kind of define who you are," Bucci says. Customers choose from hundreds of charms, such as zodiac signs, initials, animals and occupations, and Bucci puts them together on the spot. Bucci also hosts charm birthday parties at the shop.
There are also press bar parties, where everyone gets a jean jacket and decorates it with an assortment of patches, pins and charms.
In the future, Bucci plans to host workshops on hand lettering, scrapbooking and charcuterie.
Prices start at $3 for a pen and go up to $175 for a custom jacket.
