For those who love the thrill of an overhead pyrotechnic show, here's your chance to take in some summer fireworks. Some are one-night events, while others are a part of multiday carnivals and fairs. Bring a chair, blanket and picnic basket and look to the skies to get a patriotic glow.

July 5 in downtown Riverhead

Try locally sourced craft beverages, enjoy live entertainment, dine outdoors and more at the Alive on 25 festival, 5 to 9:30 p.m. (rain date: July 19). July 6 at the Greenport Firemen's Carnival

Spend the evening hopping from one carnival ride to another, tasting fair food and trying your luck winning game prizes. Carnival runs 6 to 11 p.m. with sky display at 10 p.m. 170 Moore Lane, Greenport.

July 6 and 13 at The Empire State Fair

The fair features a pirate thrill show, petting zoo and carnival (fee), plus games and circus acts, 5 to 11 p.m. weekdays, noon to 11 p.m. weekends and July 4-5. July 6 at Fireman’s Memorial Field, Valley Stream
