A pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday morning in Bohemia while crossing Veterans Memorial Highway has been identified as a 59-year-old Central Islip woman, Suffolk police said.

The victim, identified Wedneday afternoon as Joan Foley, was struck at 5:15 a.m. by a vehicle heading west at Fifth Avenue, police said in an earlier news release. The vehicle fled the scene, police said. Police did not give a description of the vehicle.

Foley was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Veterans Memorial Highway was closed for several hours near the crash scene before reopening by the midafternoon, police said.
