LIRR service resumed Thursday night near Queens Village after an earlier train derailment led to delays and service changes, according to the MTA.
Two cars of a 16-car train derailed about 10 a.m. near Queens Village, Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said. There were no passengers on board and no injuries.
The stalled train caused service changes and delays in both directions through the afternoon commute, officials said. Hourly service was still available to Hempstead, Port Jefferson and Hempstead.
Late Thursday, the MTA said Long Island Rail Road crews had "completed rerailing the two cars that had derailed on a LIRR work train earlier today. Regular off peak service has resumed and will continue through the night."
A full LIRR train schedule is expected Friday, according to the MTA, but because of "ongoing repair work, some trains may experience delays. Customers are advised to check the TrainTime app for the latest service updates and plan accordingly, when necessary, for additional travel time."
