LIRR service on Oyster Bay branch restored after brush fire, MTA says

Long Island Rail Road service has been restored on the Oyster Bay branch following a brush fire near the tracks east of Roslyn, but delays persist along the line, the MTA said Friday night.

The 4:49 p.m. train from Jamaica to Oyster Bay, which was delayed at Alberston while fire officials responded to the blaze, was operating two hours late, according to the MTA.

The 6:20 p.m. train from Penn Station to Oyster Bay was canceled at Jamaica, while the 6:40 p.m. train from Long Island City to Oyster Bay was running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule from Jamaica.

The 7:09 p.m. train from Oyster Bay to Jamaica "will be the first westbound train to operate out of Oyster Bay, with a delay," according to the MTA.

A Nassau police spokesman said a house fire near Mimosa Drive and Harbor Hill Road in East Hills, potentially sparked by loose wires, ignited some leaves shortly after 5 p.m. The fire then spread to near the LIRR tracks, officials said. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
