Long Islanders who enjoyed the springlike weather on Monday and Tuesday will have to wait until the weekend to see temperatures go up again — but they may also have to bring an umbrella Sunday into Monday morning, St. Patrick's Day.
The National Weather Service said Thursday and Friday will see temperatures in the upper 40s and just over 50 degrees.
John Murray, a service meteorologist, said that unlike last week, the rest of the week won’t have gusty conditions and will be mainly dry.
"Back on Monday, Islip did get 65 degrees ... that is the warmest day thus far," Murray said of temperatures in 2025.
If you plan to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend, Saturday will more favorable than Sunday.
Temperatures will increase on Saturday with temperatures in the upper 50s, as well as Sunday. But Saturday night may see strong wind gusts of up to 40 mph from the south and southeast and Long Island’s next significant rainfall — more than one week after its last precipitation — is expected to begin late Saturday, then showers return after 2 p.m. Sunday into early Monday.
Monday afternoon, however, is expected to be partly sunny, the weather service said.
.
Rain should taper off by Monday, St. Patrick’s Day, which will have highs in the low to mid 50s, Murray said.
