Rain will continue Monday across Long Island and the region, especially before midafternoon, making for a wet St. Patrick's Day parade in New York City, forecasters said.
Showers and possible thunderstorms are expected into the Monday rush hour, with showers continuing into the afternoon. Temperature will rise near 56 by 11 a.m., when the parade steps off on Fifth Avenue, and then fall to around 50 during the remainder of the day, forecasters at the National Weather Service said.
New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half an inch are possible before the rain tapers off from west to east, forecasters said.
There were no reports of widespread damage Sunday into the overnight and no major transportation issues were reported by the beginning of Monday's commute.
The sun reappears Tuesday. The forecast calls for mostly clear skies all day and night, with a high in the upper 50s. Wednesday will bring more of the same — sun and highs in the 50s.
Clouds roll in again Wednesday night, and Thursday will be mostly gray, with a 30% chance of showers after 2 p.m. and a 70% chance of rain overnight, according to the weather service.
