There is a 100% chance of rain on Sunday night and showers will continue on Monday, when the high temperature will be in the mid-50s, according to the weather service.
The storms are remnants of the deadly thunderstorms that were expected to hit the lower Mississippi/Tennessee valleys and the Southeast on Saturday, according to the weather service. The storms were expected to reach the East Coast by Monday, the weather service said.
Thunderstorms are not expected to reach Suffolk County on Sunday and Monday, according to weather service meteorologist James Tomasini, who said, "Any thunder is expected to stay closer to the city — maybe we’ll get some thunderstorms that make it into Nassau County, but they shouldn’t make it too far east."
High temperatures are expected to remain in the 50s throughout most of the week. Dry weather is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with the next chance of rain being on Thursday.
"We dry out Monday night and we’re dry through Wednesday night. Our next chance of any rain isn’t until Thursday afternoon," said Tomasini, who said that rain would last into mid-Friday.
