Long Island weather forecast: More wind and colder temperatures
Windy conditions are expected to carry over from Thursday to Friday but Friday looks to be significantly colder.
The National Weather Service on Thursday evening said the high temperature on Long Island on Friday will only be about 34 degrees under mostly sunny skies. A northwest wind is expected to blow at 17 to 21 mph with gusts as high as 31 mph.
"A cold front moves through ... [Thursday] evening, with a couple of reinforcing cold frontal passages through Friday evening," according to the weather service's area forecast. "The region will remain in-between intense low pressure over Newfoundland and high pressure to the southwest into Saturday."
On Thursday there was a trace amount of snowfall and, at 11:07 a.m., a high for the day in Islip of 43 degrees before the temperature started to drop, according to the weather service. The normal high for this time of year is about 47 degrees.
A wind advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
Friday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low of around 25 degrees.
The weather service said it will be mostly sunny on Saturday with relatively light winds of 8 to 14 mph and a high temperature of about 40 degrees.
Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high temperature near 49 degrees on Sunday.
