Long Island's empty storefronts repurposed
OCTOBER 2021 – nextLI kicked off 2021 by asking Long Islanders to identify local retail spaces that were vacant and could be explored to better serve the region as part of our next research project.
Those suggestions helped us find spots across Long Island that are ripe for repurposing for the future.
nextLI, an initiative by Newsday funded by a grant from the Rauch Foundation, then commissioned 4WARD Planning to model out what those shopping center sites can be reimagined into based on the needs and wants of Long Islanders.
Watch of the launch of the report below, hosted by nextLI Outreach and Engagement Manager Coralie Saint-Louis featuring:
- Todd J. Poole of 4ward Planning, who authored the report
- Jimmy Coughlan of TRITEC, a development company with projects across Long Island
- Sarah Lansdale the director of the Suffolk County Division of Planning and Environment
- Valentin Staller of Staller Associates, a real estate company specializing in the commercial real estate sector
