Michael Gormley covers the governor, Legislature, state government, politics and state issues. He joined Newsday in 2013 after working as capitol editor of The Associated Press in Albany; assistant city editor for projects, projects reporter and government reporter at the Times Union of Albany; bureau chief and project reporter for the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin; reporter and projects reporter for The Recorder in Amsterdam; and reporter for the Oneida Daily Dispatch and the Catskill Daily Mail. He co-authored two nonfiction books on baseball.
Honors and Awards: More than 20 awards, including the Walter T. Brown Award for state and political reporting in Albany, 2020; first place, New York State Publishers Association distinguished state government coverage of excellence, 2016; first place, Associated Press Association, continuing coverage, 1993; first place, national Associated Press Sports Writing Award, co-winner, 1990.
