The Yankees will hold a moment of silence before Thursday’s season opener at Yankee Stadium for former outfielder Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old son, Miller, the team announced on Wednesday.
Miller Gardner died on Friday after falling ill on a family vacation. Brett Gardner played his entire 14-year career for the Yankees from 2008-21.
Andy Pettitte, a longtime teammate of Brett Gardner, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Carlos Rodon starts the game for the Yankees against the Milwaukee Brewers. Betsy Wolfe, a Tony-nominated actress who recently was in the musical "& Juliet," will sing the national anthem.
The Yankees also will hold a moment of silence before Saturday's game for longtime employee and former visiting clubhouse manager Lou Cucuzza Sr., and one on Sunday for former Brewers announcer Bob Uecker.
