Area college roundup: LIU nets lacrosse win
Cam Connolly had three goals, notching his first career hat trick, and an assist to lead the LIU men’s lacrosse team to a 10-7 non-conference road win over Lindenwood on Saturday.
Ben McIsaac and Tom von Bargen each scored two goals. Jasper Simon made seven saves. LIU (2-1) scored seven straight goals and held Lindenwood (0-2) scoreless for more than 41 minutes.
Air Force 12, Stony Brook 11: Dylan Pallonetti scored four goals for Stony Brook (1-3) in a non-conference road loss in overtime. Nick Dupuis had two goals and three assists. Justin Bonacci and Ryan Barker each scored two goals. Aidan Tolen scored the winning goal for Air Force (1-3).
Marist 12, Hofstra 10: John Madsen had three goals and an assist for Hofstra (3-2) in a non-conference home loss. Justin Sykes and Sam Lutfi each had two goals and an assist. Chase Patterson went 18-for-25 on faceoffs and Sean Henderson made nine saves. Sean Mullan scored three goals for Marist (3-1).
Richmond 18, St. John’s 2: Kyle Munson made 14 saves for St. John’s (0-5) in a non-conference road loss. Bobby Seel scored two goals and Jack McCarthy had a career-high six ground balls. Luke Grayum had three goals and an assist for Richmond (2-2).
BASEBALL
Liberty 9, Hofstra 4: Luke Masiuk hit a pinch-hit two-run home run in the ninth inning for Hofstra (1-4) in a non-conference road loss. Alex McCoy had two hits and a RBI. Dylan Palmer had two hits and drew a walk. Sean Lane had a hit, a RBI and scored a run. Kane Kepley hit a three-run home run and had four RBIs for Liberty (4-2).
Molloy sweeps. Matt Yip singled to drive in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning for Molloy (5-0) in a neutral field, non-conference 3-2 win at Myrtle Beach in the first game of a doubleheader. Molloy won the second game, 16-12. In Game 1, JJ DeVito had two hits and drove in a run. Anthony Mansiero drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. JC Kiss allowed three hits and two runs over six innings. Timmy Mott threw three scoreless innings of relief and struck out four. In Game 2,
Yip hit two home runs, had five RBIs and three of Molloy’s 11 hits. Grayson Saltzer hit a home run, drew two walks and scored three runs. DeVito and Thomas Lebrecht each drove in two runs. Dan Ciotti had four hits and three RBIs for Chestnut Hill (0-3).
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY
LIU 4, Stonehill 2: Zachary Nazzarett scored a power-play goal to break a 2-2 tie and lead LIU (16-18-2) to a non-conference home win. Jack Quinn, Austin Brimmer and Josh Zary each scored a goal. Stonehill is 2-30.
SOFTBALL
LIU 3, Maryland 0: Emma Niece went 2-for-3 with two RBI singles to lead LIU (6-7) to a non-conference win in DeLand, Florida. Lindsey Cowans threw a five-hit complete game and hit a home run. Maryland is 4-8.
Stony Brook 4, Nevada 1: Alyssa Costello and Catherine Anne Kupinski each drove in two runs for Stony Brook (3-5) in a non-conference, neutral field win at the Libby Matson tournament in California. Alicia Orosco, Kyra McFarland and Julianna Sanzone each had a hit and scored a run. Ashton Melaas gave up six hits, one run and no walks over seven innings.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Fairfield 12, Hofstra 9: Nikki Mennella scored four goals for Hofstra (1-2) in a non-conference home loss. Lauren Coletti added two goals. Hofstra scored five unanswered goals to cut its deficit to 11-9 with 2:12 left, but Fairfield (3-1) held on as Elizabeth Talluto scored a goal with 19 seconds left.
Molloy 16, Southern Connecticut State 12: Megan Rugolo had six goals and an assist for Molloy (2-0) in a non-conference home win. Erin Murphy scored three goals and Sofia Quitoni had two. Alexa Amorison had two goals and an assist.
