After a busy first round with two picks, the Giants stayed relatively quiet on Friday during the second day of the NFL Draft.
They were active only in the third round but filled a key need, taking Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander with the 65th overall pick. Alexander, 24, started the last two seasons and was a second-team All-MAC selection last year.
Alexander, who is 6-4 and 305 pounds, was a sixth-year senior last season after starting his career in 2019. He had 7.5 tackles for loss, including 3.5 sacks, to go with five pass deflections and was lauded for being a great run-stopper.
He’ll bring more depth behind Dexter Lawrence II, who had a career-high nine sacks last season but played only 12 games because of a dislocated elbow.
Alexander also joins a room that includes free-agent signees Roy Robertson-Harris and Jeremiah Ledbetter.
The Giants have four picks remaining on Saturday, starting with the 105th pick (fourth round). They also have the 154th pick (fifth round) and two seventh-round picks at No. 219 and No. 246.
Some key needs remaining include the offensive line, where the Giants need more depth at tackle and guard. They also could add help at running back behind Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary.
