Joey Slackman, who graduated from Commack in 2019, shared on Instagram that he accepted an invite to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie minicamp.
The defensive tackle committed to the University of Pennsylvania for wrestling but broke out for the Quakers in football. He had 50 tackles, four sacks and 12 tackles-for-a-loss as a senior in 2023 and became the first Penn player since 2015 to be named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year.
He transferred to Florida as a graduate student, where he made five tackles in nine games for the Gators.
Slackman, 24, tied Suffolk’s sack record with 22 as a senior in high school.
He follows the footsteps of fellow Commack graduate Augie Contressa, who signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in May 2021.
