Newsday Fencer of the Year: Ryan Wong, Great Neck South, Jr.
After he went 27-2 as a sophomore and led his team to the county championship it would have been hard for Ryan Wong to do even more as a junior this season, but he did just that.
“He was a captain for us and had a tremendous season,” Great Neck South coach Josh Baravarian said.
Wong completed a 20-0 season, winning both the Nassau individual championship and the Brentwood holiday tournament at sabre before leading Great Neck South to its first Long Island championship.
Jun Ahn, Great Neck South, Soph.
Last season’s Newsday fencer of the year, Ahn once again proved to be one of the top fencers on Long Island. He finished second at foil in both the county championship and at the Brentwood holiday tournament.
Robert Barnes, Commack, Sr.
Barnes won the Suffolk individual title at sabre and helped lead Commack to the Long Island championship match against Great Neck South.
Tyler Chan, Syosset, Sr.
Chan capped another strong season by winning the Nassau foil championship. The two-time all-Long Island selection went 26-2 in the regular season.
Kyle Cheng, Syosset, Jr.
Cheng was a key contributor in helping Syosset reach the Nassau championship match for a second straight year. He finished second in sabre at the county championship and at the Brentwood holiday tournament.
Will Lehr, Ward Melville, Sr.
Lehr was 37-0 during the regular season and captured the Suffolk epee individual title.
Jalen Li, Syosset, Jr.
Li won the Nassau individual epee championship and placed third earlier in the season at the Brentwood holiday tournament.
Brennan Robins, Newfield, Sr.
He won the Suffolk individual foil championship and helped lead Newfield to the title in the team portion of the competition.
Coach of the Year: Josh Baravarian, Great Neck South

Baravarian led Great Neck South to its first Long Island championship and third Nassau title in the last four seasons.
