Long Island's Stick Stars in high school boys and girls lacrosse

Kings Park boys and girls lacrosse couldn’t ask for a better start to the season.

Both began their seasons with 3-0 records. Jack Salva scored a game-high six goals and assisted another in the boys' 12-10 win over Islip on Wednesday. The win should bring some sweet revenge for the Kingsmen, who fell to Islip last spring in a 10-9 overtime loss.

Emily Clemens now has 10 goals through three games for the girls team and helped hand Miller Place its first loss of the season with a four-goal performance in a 10-9 victory on Thursday.

But Kings Park isn’t the only program standing out this week. Here are Newsday’s first batch of Stick Stars for the 2025 season.

BOYS LACROSSE

Derek Busking, West Islip: Busking posted five points in each of the team’s three wins which included victories over reigning state champions in Bayport-Blue Point and state finalist Farmingdale.

Jack Deliberti, Northport: Deliberti scored seven goals and assisted another against a Sachem North side that defeated a strong Syosset squad days prior. He logged six points and scored the winner in overtime in an 11-10 decision over Huntington.

Max Eynon, Port Washington: The Vikings have a special talent between the pipes in Eynon, who has saved 35 shots against just 15 goals allowed across the team’s first three games. That includes a game-saving stop in the final seconds of a 5-4 win over Harborfields.

Malik Groover, Freeport: Groover saved 29 shots through three games for Freeport. The Red Devils have won two of their first three games while allowing just 13 goals in that span.

Will Jordan, Center Moriches: Jordan’s 21 points serve as the tip of the spear, with Colin Casey (20 points) and Gavin Javetski (17 points) also deserving recognition for Center Moriches’ 4-0 start.

Troy Madden, Herricks: Hot off a season with more than 100 points, Madden already posted 19 points through Herricks’ first two games. He earned his 100th career assist in his 10-point performance against Oyster Bay.

Matt Triolo, Glenn: The senior boasted a nine-point performance (five goals, four assists) for Glenn in its 12-11 win over Mattituck/Greenport/Southold in Suffolk II. His third goal served as his 200th career score before his fifth proved to be the winner in the final minutes of the game.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Annie Chimienti, South Side: Her 24 points helped South Side begin the spring 4-0, posting no fewer than five points in each game.

Lilly DeNatale, St. Dominic: DeNatale netted five goals as the Bayhawks fended off Bethpage for a 9-8 non-league win Monday. She added another two goals the very next day for St. Dominic in a 12-0 CHSAA win over Holy Trinity.

Valentina Kesabian, Clarke: Kesabian had five goals and two assists in Clarke’s 13-9 win over East Rockaway on Wednesday, two days after posting five points in a tight 11-10 win over West Hempstead.

Kylie Lamoureux, Rocky Point: Her seven goals and two assists led Rocky Point to an 18-8 win over Mattituck. Lamoureux scored her 100th career goal in the process.

Elizabeth Poirot, West Hempstead: Her 11-point performance in a 13-11 win over Freeport on Wednesday led her to be named as Newsday’s Athlete of the Week, then had three more against Hempstead on Saturday.

Sofia Raza, Valley Stream District: Her winner with 40 seconds left led Valley Stream to a 5-4 win over Sewanhaka. She added two goals in a 7-6 win over Herricks.

Elizabeth Vitale, Locust Valley: An undefeated start through four games wouldn’t be possible without Vitale and her 25 points. She scored four goals in an 11-9 win over Carle Place on Friday.
