St. Anthony's girls soccer stays atop Newsday's fall Big 10

1. ST. ANTHONY’S GIRLS SOCCER
The Friars improved to 12-0, after a 4-1 victory over Sacred Heart and non-league victories over strong programs such as New Jersey’s Immaculate Heart Academy and Maryland’s Archbishop Spalding. St. Anthony’s, winners of the last four CHSAA titles, have outscored opponents, 44-3, led by seven goals and eight assists by Olivia Perez and seven goals and four assists by Emily Riggins.
2. NORTHPORT FIELD HOCKEY
The defending Long Island Class A champions have outscored their opponents 59-3 and are 11-0. Reigning Suffolk Player of the Year Sophia Bica is tied with West Babylon’s Emily Marino for second on Long Island with 24 points. Natalie McKenna has recorded shutouts in nine of 11 games.
3. GARDEN CITY FOOTBALL
They’ve captured five Nassau Conference II titles in a row, including three consecutive Long Island Class II crowns. They’re 4-0 led by quarterback Luke Schmitt and halfback Jack Cascadden. They’ve outscored opponents 166-14.
4. EASTPORT-SOUTH MANOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL
In a matchup of unbeatens, the Sharks overpowered Northport with a 3-0 win on Oct. 7. Jake DesLauriers led the way with 18 kills and 12 digs, while his brother, Ayden DesLauriers, had 19 assists and 10 digs for last season’s Division II champion.
5. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS SOCCER
Massapequa had another strong week, highlighted by a 7-1 non-league victory over Kellenberg. After falling in the Nassau Class AA final last season, Massapequa seems as strong and determined as ever to return to its championship ways. Lia Howard has nine goals and 17 assists in 11 games.
6. FLOYD GIRLS TENNIS
The Colonials have had an impressive regular season with a win over Westhampton who had not dropped a Suffolk match since 2017. The squad is led by Adrianna Filippelli at first singles and the duo of Amanda Jones and Hailey O’Connor at first doubles.
7. SACRED HEART GIRLS SWIMMING
The Spartans are off to a 2-0 start, winning each race in the two meets, after winning all 11 events at the CHSAA championships last season. Cavan Gormsen, Newsday’s CHSAA swimmer of the year last season, Tess Howley and Makayla Pearce will lead the pace for Sacred Heart throughout the season.
8. GARDEN CITY FIELD HOCKEY
The defending Nassau Class A champions have outscored their opponents 27-2 and are 7-0. Blakely Trapani (five goals, four assists) and Anastasia Menoudakos (four goals, five assists) are exceptional forwards with excellent vision.
9. NORTHPORT GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
They scored 57 points and won the St. Anthony’s Invitational last weekend at Sunken Meadow State Park. Allison Reid was second on the 5K course in 19:40.3 and Mia Wickard was third in 20:20.4.
10. BRENTWOOD BOYS SOCCER
Goalkeeper Chris Interiano has three shutouts this season for Brentwood, which is dominating Suffolk League I. Its only loss this season came against League II Connetquot on Sept. 3.
