Marissa Nosovitch threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as No. 1 Carle Place defeated No. 2 Wheatley, 5-0, in Game 1 of the best-of-three Nassau Class B softball final at Farmingdale State on Wednesday. Olivia DeMicco had a two-run single to open the scoring.
Game 2 is 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Farmingdale State. Carle Place improves to 10-8. Wheatley is 13-7.
BASEBALL
Wantagh 10, Plainedge 8: Paul Fontana hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie at 8 as No. 1 Wantagh defeated No. 2 Plainedge in Game 3 of the Nassau Class A semifinals. Fontana went 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Wantagh (19-3-1) plays Clarke (20-3) in a battle of No. 1 seeds in the Nassau Class A final. Game 1 is 4 p.m. Saturday at Farmingdale State.
Farmingdale 10, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 3: Jordan Welch had two home runs and seven RBIs to lead No. 3 Farmingdale over No. 2 Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK in Game 3 of the Nassau Class AAA semifinals. He had a grand slam in the fifth inning to give Farmingdale a 6-1 lead.
Jack Molloy allowed two hits with five strikeouts over 5 1⁄3 innings in the win. Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK finished 17-8.
Farmingdale (17-7-1) plays the winner of Massapequa/Port Washington in the Nassau Class AAA final with Game 1 at 10 a.m. Saturday at Farmingdale State.
Sachem North 4, Connetquot 3: Rob Kienzle allowed three hits and had seven strikeouts over five innings as No. 3 Sachem North defeated No. 1 Connetquot in the loser’s bracket final of the Suffolk Class AAA playoffs.
Joe Altman went 1-for-2 with an RBI single to give Sachem North a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Connetquot finished 15-4.
Sachem North (15-5) plays No. 4 Commack in the Suffolk Class AAA final at 4 p.m. Saturday at Middle Country Athletic Complex.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Wantagh 11, Syosset 10: Sienna Diglio scored the winning goal off an assist from Juliana Cerasi with two minutes left in the fourth quarter to break a tie at 10 as No. 2 Wantagh defeated No. 3 Syosset in the Nassau Class C semifinals at Adelphi. Diglio finished with two goals and four assists. Caitlin Haggerty had six goals for Syosset, which finished at 9-7.
Wantagh (11-4) advances to play No. 1 Manhasset (11-4) in the Nassau Class C final at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Adelphi.
BOYS TENNIS
Chaminade dominates final. Luke Hynes defeated George Londos, 6-4, 6-4, at first singles in the CHSAA individual finals. Will Souther and Kevin Hyland defeated Dante D’Avanzo and Peter Arciero, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8, at doubles. All players who reached the finals were from Chaminade.
UNIFIED BASKETBALL
East Rockaway 51, Floral Park 39: Ava Grullon had 14 points, Maycol Hernandez added 10 points and JP McCarthy scored nine points as East Rockaway defeated Floral Park to win the Culminating Tournament Championship Game on Tuesday.
