High school playoff roundup: Hunter Colagrande guides Kings Park to Suffolk Class A crown; more baseball, softball, lacrosse
Hunter Colagrande struck out seven and allowed one unearned run on two hits in 6 1⁄3 innings to lead top-seeded Kings Park to a 7-1 win over No. 2 Bayport-Blue Point to win the Suffolk Class A baseball title Wednesday night. Colagrande improved to 9-0 on the season as Kings Park won its seventh county title and first since 2001.
Giuseppe Buffolino went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Brandon Hauk, Anthony Lobasso and Dylan Frers each went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kings Park (21-3) will face the Nassau Class A champion in the Long Island championship game at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Middle Country Athletic Complex. Bayport-Blue Point finished 18-6.
Port Washington 2, Massapequa 1: Derek Fine drove in Max Spiryda with a single in the top of the third for the go-ahead run of No. 4 Port Washington’s win over No. 1 Massapequa in the deciding Game 3 of the Nassau Class AAA semifinals. Jackson Garcia struck out four and allowed one run in four innings and Jeff Radinsky struck out seven in three innings to earn the save.
Port Washington (15-9-1) will face No. 3 Farmingdale in the first of a three-game championship series at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Farmingdale State. Massapequa finished 19-5-1.
St. Anthony’s 19, St. Dominic 4: Phil Mazzola went 3-for-5, Alex Bono had a triple, three RBIs and four runs and Anthony Carlo had a triple and two runs as No. 3 St. Anthony’s defeated No. 1 St. Dominic to advance to the CHSAA finals. St. Anthony’s (17-9) will face No. 4 Holy Trinity in the first of a three-game series at 11 a.m. on Monday at Hofstra. St. Dominic finished 19-3.
SOFTBALL
Islip 9, Sayville 6: Peighton McKenna went 4-for-4 with a home run to lead No. 2 Islip over No. 4 Sayville in the loser’s bracket final of the Suffolk Class A playoffs on Thursday. Lauren McSweeney struck out eight and allowed three earned runs in seven innings. Islip (21-3) will face No. 3 Miller Place in the final at noon on Saturday at Martha Avenue Recreational Park in Bellport. Sayville finished 16-8.
East Islip 16, Deer Park 1: Cate Ropiak went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and pitched five one-hit innings with five strikeouts to lead No. 3 East Islip over No. 5 Deer Park in the Suffolk Class AA loser’s bracket final. Marisa Renganeschi went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs, three RBIs and a stolen base. Lexi Kneisel went 3-for-5 with three runs and Kayla Varga went 2-for-2 with a double, home run, three walks and five RBIs.
East Islip (18-7) will face No. 2 West Islip in the final at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Martha Avenue Recreational Park. Deer Park finished 15-8.

Long Beach 12, Mepham 6: Ava Main had five assists and seven draw controls and Skylar Kilfeather had three goals and two assists to lead No. 2 Long Beach over No. 3 Mepham in the Nassau Class B semifinals. Reilly Amorosa had a goal and three assists and Sienna Warren added four goals. Long Beach (10-7) will face top-seeded Garden City in the final at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Adelphi. Catherine Chow made six saves for Mepham, which finished 12-6.
Manhasset 13, North Shore 6: Cassidy Harley and Shea Panzik scored three goals in No. 1 Manhasset’s win over No. 5 North Shore in the semifinals of the Suffolk Class C playoffs. Grayson Denihan and Nicole Giannakopoulos each added two goals. Manhasset (10-5) will face No. 2 Wantagh in the final at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Adelphi. North Shore finished 6-11.
