The Islanders’ Oliver Wahlstrom and Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren were among 14 restricted free agents who filed for arbitration prior to Friday’s 5 p.m. deadline, the NHL Players’ Association announced.

The deadline for club-elected salary arbitration is Saturday at 5 p.m. Arbitration hearings will be scheduled from July 20 through Aug. 4. The sides can continue negotiating until their hearing begins and, typically, deals are reached without arbitration.

More importantly, Wahlstrom and Lindgren filing for arbitration will trigger a second buyout period for each team, which will begin three days after the cases are settled. Wahlstrom, the 11th overall pick in 2018 who could still be traded this offseason, and Lindgren both had a base salary of $832,500 last season so the qualifying offers both received had to be a minimum of 105% of that figure.
