Five people were wounded in a shooting at a San Jose nightclub early yesterday morning while singer Chris Brown was performing onstage.

The San Jose Mercury News reported that the shootings occurred inside the Fiesta club about 1:20 a.m., police said. The San Francisco Chronicle, which posted a later report than the Mercury News, said the shootings happened near but not within the club.

Both papers said four people suffering gunshot wounds were taken to a hospital and that a fifth shooting victim walked into a hospital later. All were expected to recover. Brown was uninjured.

A five-second video on a repeating loop, posted to Brown's supposed Vine account, shows the Grammy Award-winning singer filmed from the apparent vantage point of an audience member close to the stage. Brown, 25, microphone in hand, is performing his song "Loyal" when three shots ring out. He hunches his shoulders in a flinching response and men standing near him onstage hustle him away.

Both papers reported that Brown afterward tweeted, "I'm 100," as in 100 percent all right, but that tweet did not appear on his Twitter page Sunday.

The singer was attending a ticketed birthday event for an unspecified person, with music provided by KMEL DJs Big Von and Black Marc, said the Mercury News, which added that the party had been moved from its originally scheduled venue, the Rockbar Theater in San Jose, to accommodate a larger-than-expected crowd.

The paper said Fiesta club management could not be reached for comment and most employees leaving the building would not speak with reporters. A bartender, Edgar Jimenez, who ducked below the bar, told the paper, "There was screaming, pushing and running. . . . Of course I was scared, because you're in the middle of a shooting."
