'CSI' to end as two-hour movie in September

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" -- one of the emblematic TV dramas from the last decade and also the one that turned CBS into a primetime powerhouse -- will end as a two-hour movie early next season, the network Thursday.
In other new fall season news, CBS said Bradley Cooper -- star of 2014 blockbuster, "American Sniper" -- will "recur" on a new primetime drama, "Limitless," adapted from the 2011 movie, also starring Cooper.
With the "CSI" announcement, CBS effectively slays some of the only outstanding questions hovering over what is otherwise broadcast television's most stable schedule -- whither "CSI," and will some of the original stars return for the September send-off? Those were answered too: Both Marg Helgenberger and William Petersen will be back for the movie. "CSI" star Ted Danson will move to "CSI:Cyber" after the "CSI" 15-year run ends.
In addition, CBS yesterday officially confirmed an open secret, and -- at least in the trades -- an oft-reported one too: CBS will launch a series based on DC Comics' "Supergirl," which was last adapted for the screen -- or the big one -- in 1984. Itas based on the character,Kara Zor-El (played by Melissa Benoist), who decides to reveal her superpowers, the series will also star Calista Flockhart and former "Grey's Anatomy" regular, Chyler Leigh.
Here's the lineup:
Monday: "The Big Bang Theory," 8; "Life in Pieces," 8:30, family comedy with Thomas Sadoski and Colin Hanks; both series move to Thursdays when football ends later in the fall...then, "Supergirl," 8; "Scorpion," 9; "NCIS: LA," 10.
Tuesday: "NCIS," 8; "NCIS:NO," 9; "Limitless," 10, with Jake McDorman, and based on the film, about someone who boosts his brain-power with a drug and who is enlisted by the FBI to solve cases.
Wednesday: "Survivor," 8; "Criminal Minds," 9: "Code Black," 10, a medical drama with Marcia Gay Harden.
Thursday: Football; after it concludes, this will be replaced by the Monday comedies, followed by "Mom," 9; Angel from Hell," 9:30, with Jane Lynch, as a guardian angel; "Elementary," 10.
Friday: "The Amazing Race," 8; "Hawaii Five-0," 9; "Blue Bloods," 10.
Saturday: Crimetime Saturday
Sunday: "60 Minutes," 7; "Madam Secretary," 8; "The Good Wife," 9; "CSI:Cyber," 10.
