Free dental screenings for kids on Long Island
In honor of the American Dental Association's nationwide Give Kids a Smile Day, several venues on Long Island will be offering free dental health care to children, organized by the Nassau and Suffolk County Dental Societies:
St. Charles Hospital at the Stephen B. Gold Dental Clinic (200 Belle Terre Rd., Port Jefferson) from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. Children ages 1 to 17 will receive free dental screenings, cleanings and fluoride treatments. Patients will be seen by appointment only, 631-474-6797
Cradle of Aviation Museum (Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Garden City) from 8:45 a.m. to noon on Friday. Children ages 4 to 8 will receive a free dental exam and fluoride treatment. The event includes a puppet show and movie about oral hygiene. Free admission to the museum for children; must reserve at 516-227-1112.
Family Service League (1444 Fifth Ave., Bay Shore) from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday. Children ages 1 to 17 will receive free dental screening, cleaning, fluoride treatment and sealants. Preregistration is encouraged at 631-647-3100.
Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center (431 E. Main St., Riverhead) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Kids ages 1 to 17 will get a free dental screening, cleaning and fluoride treatment. Free dental sealants as well, if appropriate. Free dental health puppet show and health education throughout the day, as well as a draw-a-picture-of-the-Tooth Fairy contest. Preregistration is encouraged at 631-208-9200, but walk-ins will be accepted. The event includes free admission to the Aquarium for all children and one adult per child (children must come with parent or legal guardian).
