Weekend family fun on Long Island: Halloween parties, haunted houses and more

Looking for things to do with the kids this weekend? From Halloween parties and haunted houses to trick-or-treating and more, there is plenty happening on Long Island. Here are my top five picks for family-friendly activities during the weekend:

"Boo! A Monster Musical" at Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (71 E. Main St., Patchogue). Families can enjoy the interactive concert in which an 11-year-old boy attempts to stop the World Holiday Commission from canceling Halloween, performed by The New Musicals Project on Sunday, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Price: $10.

Halloween Fun Festival at Madison Theatre at Molloy College (1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre). On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., check out a festival with family activities, pumpkin decorating, haunted house, scarecrow garden, mask making, corn maze, costume contest and more.

Haunted Hatchery at Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium (1660 Route 25A, Cold Spring Harbor). Trick-or-treat your way through the hatchery and aquariums; event features refreshments, games, Halloween crafts and more on Saturday, from 2 to 5 p.m. Price: $6 adults, $4 ages 3 to 12, free ages 3 and younger.

Haunted Manor at Longwood Estate (Longwood and Smith Roads, Brookhaven). Walk through and hear the untold story of conjured spirits at the Longwood Estate. Witches Brew and cookies will be served, for children in grades 5 and up on Saturday and Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. Price: $5, reservations are required.

Not So Spooky Walk at Clark Botanic Garden (193 I.U. Willets Rd., Albertson). On Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m., a less scary version of the Spooky Walk, featuring Halloween not-so-scary trail, music, food vendors and live actors, presented by Town of North Hempstead. Price: $3.
