Pedestrian killed in Copiague crash, Suffolk police say
A pedestrian was struck and killed in a car crash early Sunday in Copiague, Suffolk County police said.
The victim, Benjamin Zuniga, 32, of Copiague, was struck about 1:25 a.m. in front of 416 Oak St., police said.
First Precinct police officers responded after a 911 caller said the man was lying injured in the roadway, police said.
Zuniga was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle, Jamie Phillips, 26, of Farmingdale, who spoke with responding officers at the scene, was not injured.
No charges have been filed. Major Case Unit detectives are investigating, police said.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the man’s injuries were the result of being struck by a vehicle, police said.
