Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) lashed out at Democratic challenger Perry Gershon Wednesday for a mailing that pictures a wire hanger with a headline underneath labeling it Zeldin's, “plan for women’s health care.”

“This is the most disgusting mail piece I have ever seen in any campaign I have been a part of,” said Zeldin.

Gerhson stood by the campaign piece, which was paid for by the New York State Democratic Committee.

“Lee Zeldin’s record on women’s health is abysmal, and he shows contempt for women’s equality," Gershon said. "While our imagery may be jarring initially, the facts behind it are far more dangerous.”

The flip side of Gershon’s mailing calls Zeldin an anti-choice zealot who wants to see Roe v. Wade overturned and has voted repeatedly to outlaw a woman’s right to choose.

The piece also attacks Zeldin for opposing funding for Planned Parenthood and legislation to ensure equal pay for women.

The Gershon mailing hit after Gershon and Zeldin clashed Monday in a debate in Hampton Bays over vandalizing of Gershon campaign signs that were painted with the words “baby killer” and "gay lover."

Gershon and Zeldin condemned the vandalism.

In attacking Gershon's mailing Wednesday, Zeldin said Gershon "launched his campaign stating it was due to similarities in his head between Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler of Nazi, Germany, who murdered 6 million Jews and millions of others. That was one heck of a disgusting opening argument and this is one heck of a vile, disgusting closing argument."

In response, Gershon said, “Lee, if you are more upset about a mailer than you are about restricting women’s rights, perhaps you should be looking for a new job?“
