1 killed, 2 injured in West Babylon car crash
A West Babylon man was killed and two others were injured when two vehicles crashed in West Babylon Tuesday, Suffolk police said.
Werner Goebel, 81, of Belmont Avenue, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and was pronounced dead there, police said.
Goebel was driving a 2009 Honda Civic south on Route 109, and tried to make a left onto Platt Avenue about 6 p.m., police said, when he was struck by a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup, which was traveling north.
The other driver, Matthew Silverman, 23, of Pacific Street, Lindenhurst, and a 17-year-old passenger in Goebel's car also were taken to the hospital, police said, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening. First Squad detectives asked that anyone with information call 631-854-8152.
