A Mastic man was arrested in connection with a hit and run that killed a pedestrian on Sunrise Highway in North Patchogue early Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Luke Figat, 25, of Medford, was crossing the highway just west of Route 112 about 3 a.m. when he was struck by three vehicles, police said. A physician assistant from the county medical examiner pronounced Figat dead at the scene, police said.

Although two drivers stopped, the vehicle driven by Eduardo Aponte of Mastic took off, police said. The drivers who remained on the scene were not hurt, police said.

Aponte, 29, was later arrested after an investigation by Suffolk Police’s Fifth Squad and Major Case Unit detectives.

He is charged him with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. It was not known if Aponte had an attorney.

Aponte was to be held overnight at the Fifth Precinct in Patchogue. He was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
