Hauppauge-based Briggs & Riley has developed a new line of luggage engineered to help travelers fit more in their carry-on bags and still meet standard measurements for unchecked luggage, the company said.

The Baseline CX, a five-piece line, uses a patent-pending system allowing travelers to expand the frame of the bag and then compress it to a smaller size, removing air. So what used to be a checked bag size can be compressed with a “gentle push” into a carry-on size, the company said.

The line, which includes three types of carry-on bags and medium and large expandable uprights, is priced from $399 to $549. The Baseline CX goes on sale at stores and Briggs & Riley's online site Aug. 1.
