State offers to help on hiring
"We're open for business" and that means "helping you start hiring again," said Colleen Crawford Gardner, new commissioner of the New York State Department of Labor. She was addressing about 100 attendees Thursday at the Hauppauge Industrial Association workforce development conference at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue.
She refered to the federal tax credit employers can get for hiring someone who had been out of work for more than 60 days. She also discussed training money for emplyers to enhance the skills of candidates they hire through the state's one stop career centers. You can learn more at the department's web site.
Due in part to a diverse economy, she said, "Long Island will emerge out of the recession quicker than other areas."
