“Sharknado,” the surprise hit from the Syfy channel, will hit the big screen at a one-time midnight showing August 2 around the country.

The movie, about a freak hurricane that swamps a water-logged Los Angeles with man-eating sharks, stars Tara Reid, John Heard and a chainsaw-wielding Ian Ziering of Fox's “Beverly Hills, 90210.” Though one of many B-movie hommages from Syfy, “Sharknado” quickly became a cultural sensation after it aired July 11 thanks to hundreds of thousands of social media mentions.
