Rhum Island Inspired Cuisine & Rum Bar opens in Patchogue
After nearly two years’ delay, Rhum Island Inspired Cuisine & Rum Bar has opened in Patchogue. The property that used to house Lawan Authentic Thai was converted from a one-story restaurant to a tri-level space with outdoor rooftop seating, the first in Patchogue.
It’s the third spot from David and Rachel Hersh, owners of Rumba and Cowfish, both in Hampton Bays.

As one would expect, rum is well represented on the drinks menu, including a smoky, sweet Mt. Gay 1703 Cask from Barbados ($20 per glass), a spicy Rhum Clement Cuvee from Martinique ($18) and Don Pancho Rum from Panama with notes of orange peel and vanilla ($40).
Also consider rum-focused cocktails, from the Dark and Stormy with ginger beer ($11) to rum sangria ($11) and rum punch ($11). Wines range from $11 to $14 a glass, and beer averages $7 each.
The food menu at the 120-seat restaurant is extensive, with snacks such as grilled artichokes, tuna poke and duck empanadas ($10 to $15), while tacos are stuffed with steak, shrimp, chicken or fish versions for about $5 an order.
Cheeseburgers, ahi tuna burgers and veggie burgers round out sandwiches that range from $13 to $15. Entrees include Dominican-style ribs and sweet potatoes, pork tenderloin, crabcakes and jerk chicken for $19 to $28.
Rhum is open daily at 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays and serves dinner until midnight Friday and Saturday.
