A North Babylon man has been charged with drunken driving after a crash in which one passenger in his car was killed and another was seriously injured, Suffolk police said.

David Valles, 31, was behind the wheel of a 1987 Ford Mustang on Bay Shore Road, near Duke Street in North Babylon, when the vehicle "veered off the roadway and struck a pole at 6:09 p.m.," police said in a release.

A North Babylon man has been charged with drunken driving after a crash in which one passenger in his car was killed and another was seriously injured, Suffolk police said.

David Valles, 31, was behind the wheel of a 1987 Ford Mustang on Bay Shore Road, near Duke Street in North Babylon, when the vehicle "veered off the roadway and struck a pole at 6:09 p.m.," police said in a release.

The unidentified male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and a female passenger, not yet identified by police, was taken with serious injuries to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip. Valles was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is ongoing. Police ask that anyone with information call Major Case detectives at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
