A woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Wyandanch early Sunday morning, said Suffolk County police, who later arrested and charged a Brentwood teenager in the crash.

Officers applied tourniquets to both the legs of the 20-year-old Central Islip woman, who was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. Two other people with non-life-threatening injuries were also transported to hospitals.

Police said that shortly before 1:30 a.m. a 2013 Toyota Camry and a 2014 Kia Optima were involved in a collision at the corner of Patton and Wellwood avenues in which no one was injured. The cars' occupants then got out their vehicles to assess the damage.

A few minutes after the first crash, the teenage boy from Brentwood, driving a 2010 Nissan Rogue traveling west on Patton,  struck the rear of the stopped Kia and pushed it into the Camry, pinning  the woman between the two vehicles, police said.

The occupants of the Nissan all fled on foot, according to police.

Police arrested the teenager, whom they did not identify because he is a minor, around 1 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries.

The teen was released to his family on a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at family court in Central Islip.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police, who have requested that anyone with relevant information contact detectives at 631-854-8152.
