Joshua Wilck, of New Hyde Park, charged with attempted murder in stabbing of parents

A New Hyde Park man was arraigned on attempted murder charges Monday after police said he stabbed his parents as they slept.

Joshua Wilck, 24, was charged with six felonies, including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, strangulation and aggravated criminal contempt for violating an order of protection.

Police said Wilck’s parents, 60 and 64, were sleeping in their Cherrywood Drive home Saturday when their son entered their bedroom and began to stab them with a kitchen knife.

Prosecutors said in charging documents that Wilck, “with intent to kill,”  stabbed his parents multiple times in the neck and chest.

Authorities said he followed them out of the home and continued to attack them, including wrapping his arms around his father’s neck, trying to choke him.

Police were able to pull him off his father and place him under arrest. 

A judge had ordered Wilck to stay away from his parents in a Feb. 3 court order.

Wilck was also charged with misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.

At his arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead, Wilck's bail was set at $200,000 cash or $400,000 bond. He did not enter a plea, the Nassau County District Attorney's Office said.

He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which is representing Wilck, could not be reached for comment.

Wilck's parents remained hospitalized Monday.
