LIRR service normal on Babylon branch after suicide death, MTA says

The Babylon Branch of the Long Island Rail Road was back on schedule Sunday after service delays were reported a day earlier when a man was struck by a train at the Merrick Station.
The man was struck on an eastbound track shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday in what MTA officials said was determined to be a suicide.

One train was canceled following the incident and others experienced delays as service operated on a single track from Freeport to Wantagh, the MTA said. Travelers were advised to check the MTA website for information on service disruptions.
The LIRR station at 2051 Sunrise Hwy., between Merrick Boulevard and Hewlett Avenue, is elevated above the roadway. It is the eighth of sixteen stops on the line from Penn Station to Babylon.
