The Nassau County Police Department will hold a memorial ceremony Tuesday for deceased members, including two officers who died in the line of duty in recent months.

Officer Geoffrey Breitkopf, 40, of Selden, was killed March 12 when a Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officer accidentally shot him in Massapequa Park, minutes after a knife-wielding suspect had been killed at the scene by Nassau officers.

Officer Geoffrey Breitkopf, 40, of Selden, was killed March 12 when a Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officer accidentally shot him in Massapequa Park, minutes after a knife-wielding suspect had been killed at the scene by Nassau officers.

Officer Michael Califano, 44, of Wantagh, died Feb. 4 when, authorities said, a dozing driver's truck struck his patrol car as he conducted a vehicle stop on the LIE.

County Executive Edward Mangano and acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter will be among the officials taking part in the 11 a.m. event at the police memorial on the front lawn of Police Headquarters in Mineola.
