Police are searching for a would-be robber who ran off empty-handed when a second employee appeared from the back room of a restaurant he was trying to rob Thursday night in Levittown.

The robbery attempt took place at 10:19 p.m. at China Wok on Gardiners Avenue, Nassau County police said. Police said no one was injured -- and the robber fled without proceeds.

Police said a cashier, 39, was in the front of the restaurant when the would-be robber, described at being in his late teens, about 6-foot with a thin build, white T-shirt and multicolor bandanna, entered the store. "The subject then exited the store only to return a minute later with a bag in his hand and demanded money from the victim," police said in a news release.

The robber then went behind the counter, headed to the cash register, when a second employee "appeared from the back of the store." The robber then fled, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
