A private ambulance on its way to an accident scene hit a disabled man in a motorized vehicle who was going down the street the wrong way Friday, officials said.
The victim, who was not named by officials, is a man in his 90s who is often seen around town in his scooter, said City Manager Charles Theofan.

The victim was transported by Long Beach Fire Department ambulance to South Nassau Hospital and is in stable condition, Theofan said.
The man on the scooter was on the wrong side of the road at Park Place and Park Avenue by the LIRR station when the ambulette hit him, according to Theofan. The ambulette driver had stopped at a stop sign, and continued through when the accident occurred at the intersection. Theofan said the man and his scooter were lodged underneath the ambulette and both had to be extricated by emergency workers.
The name of the private ambulance company and driver were not available.
