A tractor trailer careened from the Long Island Expressway in Roslyn toward nearby woods Tuesday during the afternoon rush hour, leading to a five-hour shut down of two lanes, Old Westbury Village police said.
No one was seriously injured when the vehicle hit the shoulder guardrail just after 4:30 p.m. on the eastbound expressway, slightly east of Exit 39 Glen Cove Road, police said.

No one was seriously injured when the vehicle hit the shoulder guardrail just after 4:30 p.m. on the eastbound expressway, slightly east of Exit 39 Glen Cove Road, police said.
The vehicle was carrying gravel or sand, said Sgt. Thomas O'Shea, and the weight of the load pushed the tractor trailer over the guardrail and beyond the shoulder.
"The most difficult part of it was recovering the truck," O'Shea said.
Two lanes were closed to traffic during the evening rush hour, and they were not reopened until about 10 p.m., police said.
"It was pretty unspectacular," O'Shea said about the accident, "except for the delay, which was pretty spectacular."
The cause of the accident and other details were not immediately available late Tuesday night.
