MTA Police are investigating the death of a man who was struck by a Long Island Rail Road train early Friday east of the Merrick station.

LIRR spokeswoman Nancy Gamerman said the victim, a man, was a trespasser who was hit and killed by a work train at about 12:45 a.m.

Service on the Babylon Branch was suspended in both directions between Freeport and Babylon until about 3 a.m. for an investigation, she said.
