The victims of a double-fatality crash in Westbury were identified Friday as a mother and her 4-year-old son.

Martha Hernandez-Majano, 27, of Uniondale, was in the front seat and Renen Vides Jr. was in a booster seat in the rear when the driver, the boy's father, suffered a medical emergency and struck a tree on Sunday near The Source Mall, Nassau police said.

All three were taken to a hospital, where the mother and son were pronounced dead.

The driver, 27, whose name was not released, was listed in serious but stable condition after the accident, police said. Details of his medical emergency were not released.

The accident occurred off Old Country Road just before noon.

Philip Bogdos, co-owner of the nearby Majestic Diner, said at the time that he and his father rushed to aid the victims.

Bogdos said he saw the woman and the boy unconscious and pinned in the wreckage of their 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. The driver was bloodied, dazed and crying out in Spanish for his wife and child.

"I was expecting the worst, and we got the worst," Bogdos said.
