A Medford man who police said robbed a Lynbrook bank Monday didn't get very far, having been arrested a short time later on a street in nearby Hewlett.

Gaetano Delia, 53, of 31 Ash Dr., was charged with second-degree robbery and was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead, Nassau County police said.

Delia pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on $25,000 bail or $25,000 bond. He is next due in Nassau County Court, Mineola, on Thursday.

Police said Delia robbed the Bank of America branch on Merrick Road in Lynbrook at about 2:50 p.m. Monday, "making verbal demands for cash to several tellers," obtaining the money -- and fleeing on foot.

Responding Lynbrook police officers got a description and found Delia "a short time later" near Broadway and Stewart Street, arresting him without incident.

Police said the stolen cash was recovered.

There were no reported injuries in the robbery.
