Ryan Cronin releases first TV ad in state Senate race

Democratic state Senate candidate Ryan Cronin has released his first TV ad of the campaign in the 6th District in which he attacks his opponent, state Sen. Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City), for taking campaign donations from the gun lobby and drug manufacturers.

In the ad, “Two Very Different Neighbors,” Cronin says Hannon lives “just a few doors” from him in Garden City but that they are “miles apart on the issues that matter to Long Island.”

Cronin, an attorney, says Hannon took money from “corporate polluters,” the National Rifle Association and drug companies.

Cronin, who lost a 2012 race to Hannon, also says he would solve the “drinking water crisis” caused by the Bethpage Plume, provide greater oversight of drug companies and work to end Long Island’s opioid problem.

“Just a few doors separate us, but we’re two very different candidates for Senate,” Cronin says in the ad.

Senate Republican spokesman Scott Reif said Cronin’s campaign is funded by allies of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio who would “give Nassau County taxpayers and families the shaft” if elected.

“Senator Hannon has been an effective legislator for all the people, providing record support for local schools, delivering a property tax cap and a new round of rebate checks for seniors and homeowners, and ensuring our fair share of transportation and economic development funding to secure Long Island’s future,” Reif said. “In addition, he is leading the state effort to water quality and he wrote the law that now serves as a national model to fight prescription drug abuse.”
