Suffolk County police charged an Eastport man Monday in connection with a fatal hit and run accident on Montauk Highway Nov. 2.

Peter Torrillo, 48, of 13 East Pond Lane, Eastport, was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal incident and leaving the scene of a serious injury incident in Eastport. He will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

Peter Torrillo, 48, of 13 East Pond Lane, Eastport, was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal incident and leaving the scene of a serious injury incident in Eastport. He will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

Erika Strebel, 27, of Eastport, and Edward Barton, 26, of East Moriches, were standing near Strebel's disabled 1988 Jeep on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Montauk Highway at 9:05 p.m. when they were struck by Torrillo's eastbound vehicle, according to police.

Strebel was taken by East Moriches Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where she was pronounced dead.

Barton was taken by Suffolk police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for head and knee injuries.

Strebel's aunt, Holly Strebel, declined to comment.
